Convert a vintage oil lamp into a lamp you can use every day.

What You Will Need:

  • Existing oil lamp you no longer use and want to convert. If you don’t already have one Lehman’s has some options.
  • Electrified Burner that comes with cord and handle to switch on and off. ( this is one whole piece)
  • Light Bulb ( I used an Edison Bulb)

I had a question about one of the oil lamps in my home that was converted into a lamp.  So I decided to make a blog post to explain a little bit more about it and give you some resources to help you achieve this vintage decor look for your home.  I happen to be in the right place at the right time to find this vintage piece thrifting.

Doesn’t cost a lot of money!

Although I didn’t put this together myself, I know that it is possible.  Since many of us are looking to add vintage pieces to our home this can be a great addition.  Anyone who loves antiques, we all have a certain era that we admire.  I think an oil lamp can bring a lot of joy to fit anyone’s home decor.  The best part is, it doesn’t cost an arm and a leg. So I found the perfect company to give you all the parts to take your existing oil lamp and convert it into a lamp you can use daily.

I know I was excited to stumble upon this lamp when I was out thrifting one day and I know that if you want to add a lamp like this in your home, you’ll enjoy it too.  And if you don’t have an oil lamp yet, don’t worry you can find yours here too.

Lehman’s Hardware is the coolest online store.  They have a brick and mortar store that I’d love to visit one day, but either way you have to check out Lehman’s if you haven’t already.

I took my lamp apart to show you the pieces you’d find if you bought them to put together yourself.  What’s really cool is these attachments are really affordable so you could do more than one if you wanted to add a couple for a symmetrical look or in a few rooms in the home.  If you want to make your lamp interesting you can use an Edison Bulb like I did.  I really like how it has the soft warm glow and vintage look.

Assembling

  1. Make sure the oil is no longer in the base of the lamp.
  2. Remove the wick and the part it is attached.
  3. You will replace it with the electrified burner attachment  you purchased by placing it on the base.
  4. Screw in the bulb of your choice.
  5. Place your globe back onto the base.
  6. Plug in your new lamp.

You now have a new lamp you were able to assemble in no time.

It is really easy to put the parts together to create your lamp.  What’s nice is you don’t need to have any education in wiring or using any tools to create this lamp.  It’s really simple and doesn’t take long to assemble.  And it really elevates the look in your home and has potential to be a conversation piece with it’s unique look.

Let me know.

Well I hope this inspires you to think outside the box and maybe convert your oil lamp into an electric lamp you can use everyday.  It’s a really neat way to create a new piece for your home for cheap.  Let’s be honest some of these lamps especially if its vintage or vintage inspired, it can cost a pretty penny.  So let me know if you end up converting your lamp and what your thoughts are on the project.

Take care and I’ll back soon with another blog post. You can also comment below and let me know what you’d like me to cover next.

All the best,
